Why 2023 Has Become the Worst Allergy Season

JACKSON, Tn.- Allergy season will be sticking around for a bit longer this year. researchers say that climate change has caused allergy season to last longer and become more intense. More than 100 million Americans are affected by different types of allergies every year. Family Health medical assistant Jarmisha Marshall explains how.

It can be your sinuses. it could be.. you can have seasonal allergies. you have allergies to food. uh, but right now, we're really dealing with the seasonal allergies.”

Marshall tells 39 News that there has been an increase in the amount of allergy patients she's seen this season.

“Yeah. We're seeing a lot of cases of sinus infections going around. um, a lot of sneezing and coughing and congestion, scratchy throat and everything. so, we've been giving out a lot of cocktail shots.”

Cocktail shots are a short term for antihistamines that are paired with either a steroid or antibiotic. The medical assistant advises people to be aware of what triggers your allergies. She also recommends using over the counter medication such as Benadryl. Marshall suggests visiting your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen. Good luck this allergy season!
