JACKSON, Tn.-According to a study by the American Psychological Association, students feel more stressed and unmotivated than ever since the 2020 pandemic.

So, what is stress?

Stress is a normal reaction the body has when changes occur. These responses can be both physical and emotional.

During the school year, students face different challenges every day.

Things like academics, family issues, social stress, and big life changes are common stressors that students face.

Based on studies done by researchers, 39 News has compiled a list of things students can practice helping cope with stress during the new school year.

1. Try to develop a healthy sleep pattern. Studies show that students who are sleep-deprived risk higher levels of academic failure.

2. Stay active. Exercises like walking, yoga, biking, and playing sports are all healthy ways to distress.

3. Eat a well-balanced diet. Your eating habits can help or harm you. Always stay hydrated and keep healthy snacks available.

4. Take a moment to breath. When your body is undergoing stress, your breathing tends to shorten. Practice breathing techniques to help you regain balance.

5. Keep a journal. Using a journal to write and reflect on your thoughts is another way to release stress.

6. Learn how to prepare for high-stress situations like exams, speeches, and games.

7. Lastly, make time to do fun things. Stay connected with friends and family and enjoy some time off.

Stress is a normal experience that all students will face at least once. Implementing healthy practices throughout the school year can help you cope with stress. If stress and anxiety become a problem in your daily life, it is important to seek help. Remember that there is always a solution.
