Two men arrested on drug charges during traffic stop

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Department made a big drug bust Wednesday morning.

The department seized 67 pounds of high-grade marijuana during a traffic stop around 3 a.m.

The sheriff says a deputy noticed a car speeding and drifting into other lanes headed westbound on I-40.

Sheriff John Mehr says getting these drugs off the streets is a win for all.

“This is kind of the season that lots of this go across the country. Of course, I-40 is a very busy quarter going across the nation so lots of it goes up and down the highway. You never know when you’re out there and something happens. It kind of falls in your lap. It’s a good thing to get those drugs off the street,” said Sheriff John Mehr, Madison County.

The department says Corey Gates and Kenneth Jackson Jr., both in their early 30s, were arrested on possession of marijuana charges.

Both Gates and Jackson are in the Madison County Jail.
