TSU Cooperative Extension set to host community health fair in Jackson

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension will be hosting the East Jackson Community Health Fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Shirlene Mercer Park.

At the health fair, you can get free health screenings and give-a-ways.

Different vendors will be there to offer help with cholesterol, blood pressure, hearing, vision, and much more. The extension office explains why it is so important to get regular health screenings and why you should come out to the health fair.

“So that people are able to know what their status is when it comes to high blood pressure or heart disease or cardiovascular disease or even cancer. A lot of people, especially, the African American community don’t visit the doctor like they should, so this is a great opportunity for people to come out,” said Dr. Kane Reeves, the Extension Agent and County Director for TSU Cooperative Extension.

There will be at least 20 vendors offering help to event-goers. Attendees will also be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine provided by Helping Hands of Tennessee.

The extension office will also be hosting another community health fair on May 22nd at Savannah Williamson Community Park in Denmark.
