Travel Local: Hardin County

The lights are up and Santa’s sleigh is here, so you know what that means, it is Christmas time in Tennessee and although the holidays may look a little different this year, local destinations like Hardin County have a lot in store for the holidays.

Hardin County is filled with history from Shiloh National Military Park to Pickwick Lake, but during the holidays the county is filled with lights from city to city.

“We like to light up the entire county, especially in downtown Savannah where we have the whole town lit up", says Hardin County Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism Director, Beth Pippin.

This year they are still having parades to celebrate Christmas, but are doing them a little different.

Savannah’s Christmas parade is December 14th and Saltillo's is December 5th.

“Didn’t want to cancel all the activities, but we’ve kept everything that we could. We want to watch out for everyone’s safety. Like our Christmas parade in downtown Savannah is what we call a reverse parade", says Pippin.

Hardin County also has a river museum for visitors to learn about all the history in that area.

The museum takes you through a journey of wars and transformation.

“River museum, so you can begin with the mound builders room, work your way through the trail of tears, steam boat exhibit, civil war exhibit", Pippin adds.

The communities here in Hardin County are excited to welcome visitors this holiday. For 39 news, I’m Imani Williams, in Savannah.
