Ti'Mia Lawson wins "Miss Basketball" for her role in South Sides State Championship win!
JACKSON, TENN (WNBJ)-
The State Tournament Championship game meant so much to us as a team because this is what we wanted. This like where we've been working for all summer and we got what we wanted," said Senior Ti'Mia Lawson.
Ti’mia and the Lady Hawks won the class 3A State Tournament back on March 11th, defeating Livingston Academy 62-52, capping off an undefeated season.
But this wasn’t the first time that the South Side girls made it to the championship game.
"Last year really set it up for us. We felt what it felt like to get the silver bowl and that pushed us to make it, to get the gold by like, we didn't want to feel the sadness with the silver ball no more. Coach wanted to get the gold ball this year, so we did just that," Ti'Mia said.
Ti’Mia led her team to win the gold ball State Championship trophy this year with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals in the title game.
Ti’Mia’s efforts earned her the most valuable player of the tournament and the miss basketball award!

“I wouldn't have done it without my teammates and my coaches," Ti'Mia said, "They believed in me. They pushed me all season. They never let me down and my coaches put me up for it and they believed in me.”
Even though Ti’Mia wont be on the team next year she has high hopes for the Lady Hawks, "We have a lot of young people on our team, so all of them look up to us. Three seniors. We have one junior on our team the rest are sophomores and freshmen. So they really look up to all of us and we just got to play that role for them and lead them, so they will be better next year," she said.
But what’s next for Ti’Mia?
“My plan is to go play college basketball, but I'm still considering my decisions," she said.
The Lady Hawks are inviting everyone to come out to the gym at South Side on Wednesday (03/29) at 5:30
They’ll be presenting the trophy, recognizing the team and meeting all their fans!
