Thom Corley sworn in as Jackson's new Police Chief
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ)-
There's a new Police chief in town, Thom Corley was sworn in today as the Police chief in Jakckson.
A lifelong resident of Jackson and long-time member of the Jackson police department Thom Corley was sworn in today as Jackson's new police chief.
Chief Corley says that his over 30 years of service and leadership with the department has prepared him for this job
And introduced him to the people he will be working,
“Been in a leadership role, I’ve gotten to know every one of them, so what’s great is you have that familiarity, you’re just comfortable.”
As chief Corley plans will continue the community policing focus the department has had over the last few years, focus on collaborating inside and outside the department, and practice what he calls “constitutional policing.”
“We’re also going to protect those constitutional rights of everyone involved because we deal with victims, witnesses, and suspects, and everyone is afforded those rights. And we are the guardians of those rights and that’s what we’re gonna do,” Corley said.
Corley says that law enforcement is a tough job but it's much harder on the family of officers. Corley’s family was in attendance to show their support as he was sworn in.
“I’ve had some close friends and family that have been by my side since I first joined the police department almost 32 years ago so, that’s critical and that’s something we want,” Corley said.
The new chief wants new officers to feel the same support from their families
Congressmen David Kustoff attended the cerimony for chief Corley and thanked the men and women in law enforcment.
“I don’t know what it’s like to wear a badge, i know, and we all know, we’re all familiar with the sacrifices that all of you in law enforcement make everyday to protect all of us,” Congressman Kustoff said.
Corley is eager to take on his new role as chief of the Jackson police department
“excited, ready to go,"said Corley.
Chief Corley will officially begin on January 7th
