The Gibson County Chamber of commerce has a cash program that supports local businesses, and this year using that program, they put a large amount of money back into the community.
Residents can purchase chamber cash and use it at any local business that is apart of the chamber.
“And that is money that can be used just like a gift card at multiple locations around the county,” said Libby Wickersham, director of Gibson County Chamber of Commerce.
This year, the chamber sold a little over $10,000 in Chamber Cash.
“The chamber cash has been great because it’s kept the money in our communities,” said Debbie Finch, owner of Debbie’s youth shop in Gibson County.
Every year, the community and biz owners are grateful for the program, but this year, they are even more appreciative as the pandemic impacts the economy.
“The chamber doesn’t make any money off of this; we are just doing this as a service to try to keep money in the county, to keep tax dollars in the count,” said Wickersham.
The also encourages residents to shop local.
“But especially after this year since our businesses have had such a tough year.”
As more holidays come in the next couple of months, biz owners say some Chamber Cash makes a good gift.
“It’s a great way to give a friend a birthday present, a valentines day present, a mother’s day present.
Residents can purchase the cash at the chamber’s office.
