The Cost of Covid: How You Can Prepare to Pay for Your Covid Vaccine

JACKSON, Tn.-The Cost of Covid: Some people are worried that they may not be able to afford the latest COVID Vaccine. Today 39 News visited the Jackson Madison County Health department to find out how people can get a Covid shot they can afford.

“For those who are not insured or who are underinsured and have a co-pay for any type of vaccine, the CDC is offering a bridge access program, and this program should keep those vaccines at no cost for everyone who is uninsured or underinsured.” Ginger Evans, Jackson Madison County Health Dept.

Those who have previously gotten the COVID vaccine may be surprised that they are no longer free.

“So, the rollout of the vaccine is going to be different this year than it has been in years past because we are no longer under a public health emergency. So, before the federal government was purchasing all of the COVID vaccines, they were free to everyone who was getting them, and you could get them anywhere you chose” says Evans.

Evans tells 39 News that The Jackson Madison County Health Department will be a part of the Bridge program. This will allow uninsured or underinsured people to get the Covid vaccine at no cost.

“Now we at the health department are going to be a bridge access provider. We do not have our vaccine here yet. So, we're expecting that here soon. I don't want to give an estimate really, because it's hard to say, but we should have that soon and we will have the vaccine here.”

If you would like to see if there are any Bridge providers near you, you can visit Vaccines.gov. From there you can search by zip code and see where vaccines are being given and see where bridge access providers are available.
