The City of Jackson selects Chris Istvanko as Hub City Hero
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The city of Jackson has selected the July recipient for the Hub City Hero award.
This month, Mayor Scott Conger is honoring Chris Istvanko.
Istvanko is a master barber with Gold Chain Cutters, LLC, who has been cutting hair since 2015.
He is not only dedicated to cutting his customers' hair and boosting their confidence. He also cuts hair for families with low income as well as citizens of the homeless community.
Istvanko explains why reaching back to help people in the community is so important to him.
"It wasn't that I was trying to gain recognition, I was just trying to do something. Like the warming stations and sometimes we have panhandlers that come in and I may not be in a position to help their pocket out. I have given several the opportunity to get freshened up and they can at least leave feeling like a million bucks,"
said Chris Istvanko, the Hub City Hero recipient and barber at Gold Chain Cutters, LLC.
Hub City Heroes is awarded to people in the community who embody selflessness and continually give their time to improve the lives of others in the community.
Recipients are selected monthly and nominations are continuous. To nominate a hero, visit the City of Jackson website. Candidates must be a resident of Jackson, Tennessee.
After a year of heroes have been recognized, one hero will be selected and awarded $1,000 to donate to a non-profit of their choice.
