THDA approves grant to build affordable housing in Jackson
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Tennessee Housing Department Agency has approved a grant to build six to eight new affordable homes in Jackson.
The grant is a multi-agency collaboration between Healthy Community LLC, Southwest Community Development Corporation, and Community Redevelopment Agency.
These agencies have been working together to revitalize neighborhoods in east Jackson and in the community near the University of Memphis Lambuth.
“I am really excited about this project, not only because we are working on a blite elimination program from THDA about four years ago. We just wrapped it up in May, we were able to demo 95 blighted properties so that a huge accomplishment. It’s the most any organization in Tennessee demo, but most importantly we are able to rebuild back on these lots is more important,' said Brian James, the Director of Community at Healthy Community.
These agencies say their main objective is to revitalize and renovated the neighborhood because that keeps communities together.
