Thanks to federal funding the McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport is getting upgrades
JACKSON, TENN (WNBJ)-
The bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last year is bringing updates and improvements to the McKellar-Sipes regional airport in Jackson.
The airport is guaranteed about 2 million dollars in federal funding for projects that they submit.
“There are three pools of money in the bipartisan infrastructure bill and we kind of qualify for all three pools of that,” said Steve Smith the executive director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority
The board of directors of the Jackson Madison County airport authority submitted applications for funding new tower equipment, terminal upgrades, parking lot and street upgrades and a new access road to three of the hangers.
The big question on the boards mind is what airline company is going to be selected by the department of transportation to operate in Jackson
“In fact, we're looking almost hourly. We check our email to see if we know," Smith said.
The committee for the city and county chose southern airways express as their choice but the final choice is up to the federal government
Smith says that they hope to know which airline will be selected in the next few days
