TDOT prepares roads for predicted snowfall

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The Tennessee Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers to be extra cautious on the roadways when snow and ice could be present.

Snow is in the forecast for later on this week in Jackson so drivers need to be aware that black ice could be on the roads even if you don’t’ see it.

TDOT talks about plans on brining the roads ahead of the wintry weather predicted.

“You know TDOT prepares for winter weather all year round, but when it comes down to it tomorrow, we will begin brining most of our roadways here in west Tennessee. Really getting those hot spots, the bridges, the overpasses, the areas that freeze first. To make sure we have a good layer of that salt brined down prior to the event,” said Nichole Lawrence, the Community Relations Officer with the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

TDOT stresses to plan ahead and check road conditions by using the Smart Way app before hitting the road.

Drivers can also call 511 to check road conditions as well.
