TBI investigates fatal officer-involved shooting at Jackson hospital

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital Saturday evening continues as Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents are working to determine the series of events leading up to the shooting.

TBI identified the man who was shot and killed as 42-year-old Marcus Mann of Brownsville.

The department says members of security at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital encountered a combative individual inside the entrance of the emergency room Saturday evening.

The report goes on to say a Jackson police officer who was already at the emergency room responded to the scene.

A physical altercation ensued resulting in the Jackson officer firing a shot and striking the man. Life-saving measures were performed by the officers and medical personnel on-site. However, Mann succumbed to his injuries.

TBI agents are collecting evidence and conducting interviews about the incident.

The Jackson Madison County General Hospital sent this statement to our newsroom:

“We are cooperating fully with investigating agencies, and our emergency department is treating patients and is fully operational at this time.”

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents.
