Tax season quickly approaching

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The tax season is quickly approaching!

The tax experts at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service say the federal government should start accepting and processing taxes on January 24th.

Mark Steber, the Chief Tax Information Officer at Jackson Hewitt encourages everyone to file their taxes as early are possible to prevent any issues.

“More importantly once you file your taxes with the IRS or your state, you lock up your personal information with the IRS. Your social security number, your spouses if you have one, your dependents so some of those schemers that might have stolen tax data can’t file a fake tax return to steal your refund,” said Mark Steber, the Chief Tax Information Officer with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.

As many tax laws change for the upcoming year, Jackson Hewitt also recommends seeking a professional tax preparer to file your taxes to ensure no mistakes are made.

The deadline to file taxes is April 18th.
