Tax-preparers remind people about the upcoming tax season deadline
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Jackson Hewitt Tax Service is reminding people to file their taxes before the deadline, which is May 17th.
Tax season this year was extended due to COVID-19.
The IRS has a three-year window for filing a federal tax return so taxpayers can also file taxes for 2017, 2018, or 2019.
A Tax Information Officer with Jackson Hewitt stressing the importance of filing your taxes as soon as you get your tax forms.
“It's a good idea to file as early as you can and when you first get your data. Three out of four taxpayers get a refund every year so if you file early, you get your money early. Also, if you file your taxes early those pesky schemers and data stealers, who might try to file a false or fake tax return using your information won't be able to. If you file early, you lock that information up and you deny them the ability to steal your money," said Mark Steber, the Chief Tax Information Officer at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.
May 17th is taxpayers’ last chance to file tax returns and claim this money before the deadline is over.
