Shopping tips for the holiday season
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Consumers all over the country are making their list and checking it twice as they begin shopping for the holidays.
The gift-giving season is upon us and local stores like City Gift in Humboldt are gearing up for the busy shopping season.
To avoid the shopping frenzy at big stores, City Gift wants to encourage people to shop local this holiday season.
“I just think when you shop local, you’re putting back into your neighborhood and your community," said Lisa Kail, a sales employee at City Gift.
City Gift has been in Humboldt for 70 years and talks about the variety of local businesses in the area.
“When you shop downtown Humboldt, you have lots of options for eating. You can come and make a day out of it. It is a fun place to come and downtown Humboldt has really grown,” said Kail.
A consumer economics specialist at the University of Tennessee urges shoppers to follow a budget.
“Families really need to sit down and see what money they have coming in and what money is coming out and really look at what they can spend for the holiday season,” said Dr. Christopher T. Sneed, an Assistant Professor and Consumer Economics Specialist with UT Extension Institute of Ag.
Sneed says there is no need to go into debt this holiday season.
“The holidays are all about making memories and the last thing we want to make debt memories that will linger on into 2022,” said Sneed.
