Shoppers in Jackson take advanage of tax free weekend
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Starting today, people all over Tennessee are out taking advantage of tax-free weekend.
Several of the local shopping centers in Jackson had parking lots full of cars today and it is just the first day of tax-free weekend.
Many shoppers coming from Medina looking forward to sales.
“We are excited to get out with the kids find their supplies and catch some deals and have family time,” said Brittney Hill, a shopper.
The tax week weekend allows shoppers to purchase certain school supplies and apparel free of state sales tax.
“So, it’s a tax-free weekend we have all the brands, Adidas, Under Armor, all the stuff the kids want. We have all the backpacks. We have shoes, socks, all the apparel, denim, pretty much everything you need to get back to school,” said Steven Johnson, Store Director of Academy Sports & Outdoors.
This year the tax-free weekend even including food items and prepared food items.
Also, in Madison County this weekend the Jackson entrepreneurs are holding their first market at the farmers’ market downtown.
The event organizer has been working hard to put the market together and is excited about bringing something new to the Jackson community.
“Come out tomorrow from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market and support your local entrepreneurs. Bring the family out for a good time. We will have t-shirts, jewelry, food music, giveaways, and more,” said Jaqushai Buddie, Jackson Entrepreneurs Market.
The event is free and open to the public.
It is all happening at the Farmer’s Market from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. located at 91 New Market Street in downtown Jackson.
The tax-free weekend for school clothing and supplies extends until Sunday, August 1st.
The food items will begin being tax-free Friday and ends Thursday, August 5.
