Shiloh National Military Park set to host Memorial day service and other events this weekend


After a year with a virtual service, the park is hosting an in-person memorial ceremony for the Americans killed in the battle of Shiloh.


Shiloh National Military park's superintendent Allen Etheridge says, “Memorial day is often viewed by many Americans as the kick-off to the summer season, but memorial day is more than just the beginning of summer it is the day that we set aside to specifically honor, morn and remember our military servicemen and women who have died in the line of duty.”


The memorial service will take place at 11 am inside the national cemetery. Retired brigadier general parker hills will be the main speaker at the ceremony. In addition to the memorial service, the park will be hosting more events this weekend.


“we’d love to have everybody come out and join us on Memorial day for our observance at 11 o’clock but just in general come out to Shiloh national military park anytime, this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday we will be having cannon firing demonstrations," says Shiloh National Military park's superintendent Allen Etheridge.


The demonstrations are from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday. The park also has a thirteen-mile scenic drive, museum, and a hiking and bike trail. Shiloh is open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm three-hundred and sixty-two days a year.
