Richard Donnell elected by the City Council to fill the vacant seat for District Three

JACKSON, TENN (WNBJ)-

Richard Donnell was elected by the City Council to fill the vacant seat of Ernest Brooks for district 3.

Mr. Donnell serves as senior advisor to the president of Lane College.

Prior to accepting the position at Lane, he practiced law for 15 years.

Donnell says he wants to focus on creating affordable housing and opportunity zones during the remainder of the term, “Because of predatory housing, there are a lot of people that cannot afford to purchase a house, that they can't afford to pay rent. There's not enough affordable housing in Jackson. So I'd like to focus on that and see what it is that I could do to help the city to look out for its citizens.”

Mayor Scott Conger said, “I've known Richard for a long time. I think a lot of him, I think he'll sort of get you saw, you know, coming and asking questions, not afraid to ask questions, get the information. And so that's what we need in a good council member. Be ready to ask questions and kind of get down to what the information is, the why and what we're doing things.”

Donnell plans to seek election to the seat when the term ends in May.
