MCSO starts Click it or Ticket campaign to save lives
The national Click it or Ticket campaign began on May 24th and extends through June 6th. During this time the Tenessee highway safety office and the Madison County Sheriffs Office are partnering to keep drivers safe.
“Using a seatbelt is the easiest thing you can do to assure the safety of you and your family while you travel on the roadways ways,” says Sergeant Richard King a member of the Madison County Sheriff's Office Special Service
Last year four hundred and three people died in accidents because they were not wearing a seat belt. That makes up for 33 percent of traffic fatalities. These could have been prevented if those involved had only been wearing a seat belt.
Sergeant King says, “Over the years I’ve worked several wrecks and a lot of them have been fatals that the contributing factor to the person losing their life was them not wearing a seatbelt. And I strongly urge people to buckle up, because during an accident you don’t know what’s gonna happen.”
Officer surveillance of the roads will be increased during this campaign to try and cut down on these fatalities.
This campaign only lasts eleven days but you should always wear a seatbelt. Wearing your seatbelt while driving will save you a ticket, but it could save you your life.
