Madison County Resident Celebrates Her 102nd Birthday

Now therefore Mayor Scott Conger of the City of Jackson, Tennessee does herby declare January 7, 2022, as Claribel Herndon Day.
One of Madison County oldest residents Claribel E. Herndon was recognized today, as she celebrated her 102nd birthday. Friends and family surrounded her to bring in this special day. “How does it feel to see 102 years?” Claribel E. Herndon (102nd Birthday) stated, “well… I’ve tried to be good, and I believe in god because he is our savior.”
The birthday girl took us down memory lane recalling her glory days at Pope High School where she played basketball. Claribel E. Herndon (102nd Birthday) informed us, “there were four that played in the center, and four that played… it was a divided court. Into three sections.”
Mrs. Herndon was married for 51 years to her late husband. She remembers entering Brookdale Jackson Oaks together in 2012 and is so grateful for the kindness they were shown by the staff. Claribel E. Herndon (102nd Birthday) explained, “my husband and I came at the same time, because he got sick and had to go to the hospital. So, that’s the reason I’m here. The people are very good to you.”
While this birthday girl lived through many eras, she says the 80’s was her favorite. “What about the 80’s did you enjoy?” Claribel E. Herndon (102nd Birthday) emphasized, “I was able to do so many things then, that I can’t do now.” After celebrating her big day Mrs. Herndon told 39 news, she was grateful to have such an amazing support system.
