Madison County agencies are hiring
Jackson, TN. (WNBJ)-
At the height of the pandemic, more than 120,000 businesses temporarily closed, and more than 30 million U.S. workers were unemployed. Since then, job openings have steadily increased, and employers are now searching for qualified workers. Today representatives from our county governments joined forces in search for hard workers. Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner says the county government job fair came about unexpectedly. Eric Turner (Madison County Fire Chief) stated, “I mentioned wanting to have a job fair to draw some interest towards the fire department and hire some new fire fighters and other positions we have available. Some of the other department heads in the county heard of that and it grew into a county-wide job fair.”
Representatives from the Madison County Fire Department, Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department, Highway Patrol and many more agencies were present at today’s fair. County Commissioner Gary Deaton believes today’s event shows why Madison County is the perfect place to find a career. Gary Deaton (Madison County Commissioner) told 39 news, “there’s many opening in Madison County—this is a place where you may be looking for a job, but this is a good place to come look for a career.”
The county is seeking individuals to fill multiple positions, and while experience might be recommended it’s not required. Eric Turner (Madison County Fire Chief) explained, “to get that qualified person. Someone that wants to grow within the county. We are willing to train those folks. They don’t have to have any experience in any of these jobs. We’re willing to train those folks and be a good steady job until retirement.”
If you missed the county government job fair this morning you still have time to meet your possible next employer tonight, from 5 to 7, at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center.
