Made in Tennessee: Kirkland's Home
JACKSON, Tenn. (WNBJ) - This week 39 News is highlighting Kirkland's Home for our Made in Tennessee segment.
The home décor store was founded in west Tennessee.
“We have the ability to deliver a completely furnished house to someone who’s interested,” said Carl Kirkland, the founder of Kirkland's Home.
Kirkland’s opened its first store in Jackson in 1966 and recently the store hosted its grand re-opening.
The founder talks about the new store design.
“Currently, we have 350 locations. We are beginning the process of evolving the designs to this current most-modern first-generation design, we call it. This one will be the model for all the stores eventually,” said Kirkland.
The founder says the business survived the COVID-19 pandemic by pivoting its sales strategy.
“We succeeded in surviving it in good shape. Setting the trend towards ordering online and we have a delivery system that delivers to the stores if you order it online. So, if you deliver to the stores there’s no charge for it so that’s pretty popular,” said Kirkland.
A part of Kirkland's re-opening was that they re-titled the store to Kirkland's Home and the founder believes the home décor store’s success is likely to continue.
“People are anxious, and they have pinned-up demand for home décor products because we’ve been home so much that we realize our home is the center of our world. The fact that we are home a lot now makes you pretty aware of if you need a new lamp or a new sofa. Kirkland’s is the place to come get it,” said Kirkland.
Kirkland's Home is open seven days a week and located at 1101 Van Drive in Jackson.
