Local high school culinary program serving the Jackson community at student-run restaurant
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Even though this school year is ending, students at Liberty Technology Magnet High School in Jackson have been busy this semester.
The culinary arts program at the school has been operating a student-run restaurant open to the public on Fridays. The restaurant is called a Taste of Liberty.
Students had been preparing to-go orders and serving guests in the restaurant this semester.
The culinary instructor is happy to be able to give the students a hands-on work experience and much-needed life skills.
“It’s not only exciting being able to be with them every day to learn them and their own personalities, but I know whenever they learn this, they learn not only to run a business in a lot of aspects, and they learn how to bring a lot of things to the community. But they also learn how to prepare a meal for their family,” said
Leslie Emerson, the culinary art instructor at Liberty Tech Magnet High School.
The Taste of Liberty restaurant will open again to the public in September.
