Local Elementary School Achieves Level 5 Honors
JACKSON, Tn.-Lincoln Elementary in Jackson is now a level five school, the highest level of academic achievement a school can reach in the state of Tennessee. Today, 39 News spoke with Principal Annie Atkins about their journey to success.
“Well, coming into a new position, new experience, it was just a collaborative effort from everyone, the teachers, the scholars, the community and other stakeholders. It was just a collaborative effort to make Lincoln successful.”
After previously being labeled a high priority school, the principle explains what a level 5 status means.
“It's a composite of the growth that all scholars make not just a certain cohort of kids, but it's the whole group of kids and what growth they make, if they make it one year-round the track, two years around the track, three years around the track. And our kids did enough. They made it around the track two or three times maybe.” says Atkins.

Principal Atkins tells 39 News that she is very intentional about creating a space for students and staff to grow. This means more data collaboration, tutoring, professional development, lesson internalization, and progressive planning. She looks forward to the future with excitement.
“We have more and more to do because we want to show Jackson, Tennessee, what Lincoln Elementary is made of.”
Students at Lincoln Elementary will be taking the TCAP test again in Spring 2024.
