Lifeline Blood Services hosts 'Gift from the Heart' blood drive

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Chocolates are not the only gift to give this February. Lifeline Blood Services hosted their 'Gift from the Heart' blood drive urging the community to give blood.

“You can help at least three people and if that’s the easiest thing to do that’s the best thing,” said Tabetha Mamula, a blood donor.

Tabetha is a long-time donor that nearly donated eight gallons of blood.

She explains why it is important for her to continue to donate.

“I just try to help people and that’s a simple thing to do. It doesn’t cost you anything, but a little bit of time. You never know who you’re going to help in the community. One day it may be some of your family," said Mamula.

Another repeated donor says it’s essential that he gives blood because of his blood type.

“I have A-negative blood. It’s kind of rare blood. Only 6 percent of people can give it,” said James Davis, a blood donor.

James is nearing the 12 gallons of blood donated at Lifeline and says it’s a vital resource.

“You should try to help out the people that are in need because it’s something you have to have to live,” said Davis.

Lifeline Blood Services in Jackson is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
