Leadership Jackson awards annual scholarships to students
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - Leadership Jackson Alumni Association presented the Judy Renshaw Leadership Scholarship recipients today at their quarterly luncheon. That scholarship helping three Madison county students pursue higher education.
Those scholarship recipients were Amber Calhoun and Bansi Govin both from Madison Academic Magnet High School, and Kaylee Snider from Trinity Christian Academy.
Judy Renshaw expressed how important developing leaders in the community is to her.
“I was honored when I retired in 2015, the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association and the Chamber renamed the scholarship in my name so I was very honored by that and it is something very close to my heart in developing youth leaders as well as adult leaders for the community,” said Judy Renshaw, the scholarship namesake.
All of the recipients were extremely grateful to the organization for selecting them for the scholarship.
“Honestly, when I first got it I was super shocked, but I was so grateful because this has helped me further my education and I mean I can’t express. I mean, I am really excited, I’m really happy about it,” said Bansi Govin, one of the scholarship recipients.
One recipient says she plans to pay it forward when she receives her degree.
“It's so important to me because once I become an occupational therapist, I’ll be able to give back to others the way, they have given to me," said Kaylee Snider, one of the scholarship recipients.
Each student will be awarded $1,500 dollars towards their higher education expenses.
Leadership Jackson says their mission is to strengthen the community, by developing engaged leaders, but also invest in their educational endeavors.
