JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - In Jackson, Lane College announcing some changes to their upcoming homecoming agenda.
Lane College’s 2021 Homecoming starts Sunday, September 26th, and continues until Saturday, October 2nd.
“We wanted to make sure the health and the safety of our alumni students and the community at large was our priority. So, with that, we want to make sure that we canceled our parade and our tailgating event for this year that would normally invite thousands of community, alumni, back to the college, and on the campus to celebrate homecoming,” said Braylin Laster, the Director of Alumni Affairs at Lane College.
Some students feeling a little disappointed after hearing the news about homecoming.
“It’s kind of upsetting a little bit because last year we had to deal with the same thing, not being able to get a college experience,” said Todayja Bonner, a business major at Lane.
Another student says it’s important that we all remain healthy.
“It is very upsetting because we didn’t get to have a homecoming like we did last year. So, it is sad, but we are still trying to stay safe and keep our community safe, keep the students safe, and keep the faculty safe as well,” said Tarhanysia Thomas, a criminal justice major at Lane.
The Director of Alumni Affairs talks about some guidelines to follow during homecoming.
“We encourage everyone if you can get vaccinated to wear your mask. Our motto here is WWSS. Wear your mask, wash your hands, social distance, and self-check. So, we are still practicing those protocols and we will continue to practice those protocols throughout homecoming week,” said Laster.
