Jackson-Madison County Library eliminates overdue fines for patrons
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The Jackson – Madison County Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month in a big way.
The library has recently announced that they are going fine free forever.
This means that overdue fines have been eliminated and items that are checked out will now auto-renew if they are not returned by their due date.
The librarians are excited to be able to get rid of fines and hopes that attracts more people to the library.
“We were just able to work it out with our budget for us to not reply on the fines, which is fantastic. It is really great for our community because we take another step towards being a truly free service for the public,” said
Shayne Plunk, the Adult Services Librarian at the Jackson-Madison County Library.
Materials at the library are eligible to be renewed two times unless the item is on hold for another patron.
Fine free applies to all materials, with the exception of MiFi devices, which are still not eligible for renewals, and library of things items, which will auto-renew only once.
All current overdue fines will be removed from patrons’ accounts, but balances for lost or damaged items will remain.
