Jackson Community Packs Nearly 360,000 Meals for Children
JACKSON, Tenn. - Feed My Starving Children has packaged enough meals to feed 982 children in countries such as Haiti, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Jackson community co-coordinator Eric Petty is excited almost 1,000 children have meals to eat for a year.
“People were coming from out of town, from different counties, people were coming because they saw it on the news, and it was a great first step.”
Local businesses, churches, and schools worked together to pack meals last Wednesday and Thursday.
In only two days, they packaged almost 360,000 meals, that will be distributed to children all over the globe.
Petty’s goal was to package 400,000 meals, and although the goal wasn’t met, he is thankful to bring the community together for a great cause.
“The kids are not numbers, but just knowing we’re right on the cusp of a thousand kids who are going to survive this year I mean let’s be honest, lives were saved, and that’s exciting. I’m really proud of our community.”
This was the first Feed My Starving Children packaging event in Jackson, and Petty looks forward to meeting his goal next year.
He believes Jackson can help change hunger into hope.
