Groundbreaking for The World's First Eco Friendly Battery Plant in Jackson Tennessee
JACKSON, Tn.-Today was the official groundbreaking event of the new eco-friendly manufacturing plant 6K. It's the first technology of its kind in the U.S. and it's starting right here in Jackson, Tennessee.
“Very excited. A little bit nervous, frankly. With the groundbreaking of what would be the world's first microwave plasma production for battery materials. So very exciting and really comforting that we chose this location for our first major production facility, said 6K Energy President, Sam Trinch.
Governor Bill Lee is excited to see how much impact the new company will bring to West Tennessee.
“I think I'm the most excited about this company coming here because what it does is provide more opportunity for people that live in Madison County. There'll be 230 families initially that have an opportunity to access a better job, a better way of life for their families. And that's exciting to be working. We can have an opportunity for.”
Governor Lee also tells 39 News that the state has invested in Tennessee students that are interested in working in the technology fields like these.
“So, we have, together with the General Assembly, we have invested in this last state budget $1 billion to expand and to grow our colleges of technology, our TCAPs all across the state to make sure that we have the skilled workers necessary to work in a plant like this.”
The 6K company will bring in over 200 jobs for West Tennesseans and will partner with local schools like Lane University to provide jobs for the new graduates. 6K President Sam Trinch tells us that the project should be completed by quarter three of 2024.
