Gold Eyes professional baseball team plays first game in Jackson
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The Gold Eyes professional baseball team will be knocking the balls out of the park as they welcome fans to the Ballpark in Jackson this weekend.
The Gold Eyes is a 12-member professional baseball team from Winnipeg, Canada. The team has been a part of the American Association League since 2011 and this will be their first season playing at the Ballpark in Jackson.
The general manager of the Jackson General’s baseball team is happy to welcome the new team and fans back to the Ballpark.
“It’s exciting, it’s a holiday if you are a baseball fan opening day is always a holiday. And I do think that you know when the pandemic struck, we have a tendency to forget how much people mean to us and seeing our fans and our season tickets holders that really is our summer family, so we’ve really missed seeing them and I know they miss being at the Ballpark. So yeah, we are just really looking forward to reacquainting ourselves with our fans,” said Marcus Sabata, the General Manager of Jackson Generals.
Players on the team are thrilled to be back on the field playing for fans after their long hiatus due to the pandemic.
“I mean it’s exciting. It’s kind of hard to control the excitement when you get out on the field a little bit so I think it will be a big adjustment coming back from all the COVID protocols and not having fans out there. Even somebody like myself not playing in a whole year, you know kind of settling in and getting back into a tempo,“ said Tyler Hill, he plays left field on the Gold Eyes.
Friday and Saturday night’s games are at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s game is at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased online at the Gold Eyes website for 10 dollars or at the gate at the Ballpark on gameday for 12 dollars.
Be sure to come out and support the team!
