Gibson Co. Office on Aging set to prepare meals for seniors on Thanksgiving
BRADFORD, TN ( WNBJ) - One agency is working to feed the elderly in Gibson County for Thanksgiving.
The Gibson County Office on Aging is gearing up for Thanksgiving. They are preparing and delivering meals to seniors in the county who need it most.
“It touches my heart to be able to provide this meal for them on Thanksgiving,” said Pam Dethloff, the Director of Gibson Co. Office on Aging.
The Gibson County Office on Aging has been delivering meals for 29 years as a part of their Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels Project Care.
“We find that a lot of seniors that do not have families that are here. They are not able to cook this full-course meal for them and sometimes we are the only one they talk to that day,” said Dethloff.
The meals are provided by the office through donations.
Volunteers and elected officials will pack the meals to be delivered on Thanksgiving morning.
One volunteer has packed meals in the past and loves to give back to her community.
“It’s a good deed to do for your community because a lot of these people that we are carrying meals to don’t get a Thanksgiving dinner,” said Trena Crocker, a Bradford native.
The office has previously sent out over 200 hundred meals and this year is no exception with the list close to 300 now. They are still taking names of seniors who would like to receive a Thanksgiving meal.
You can submit a senior’s name by calling the Gibson County Office on Aging at 731 – 742 – 2536.
