Food Drive Held for Madison County Seniors

JACKSON, Tn-The West Madison Senior Citizens Center held its second food drive today. Eligible for all Madison County Seniors aging from 60 to a 100 plus.

“This will be going on for the remainder of the year. First Friday of every month. This is Madison County wide. You must be a senior 60 plus living in the area of Madison County. Come out to West Madison Senior Citizens Center, fill out a complete application and pick up your food on Fridays.” said Lisa Bobbit, Executive Director.

Bobbit tells 39 News that it is imperative that the senior population has access to nutritional food.

“The importance of doing this is to make sure that our seniors do not go without, that This supplements the income that they have. This food is going to help them through the remainder of the month. Then they come back to the center and pick up their next box for the next month.”

According to Director Lisa Bobbit, participation has doubled in numbers since their first ever food drive in August.

The response has been awesome. We've seen more seniors pick up and join our center that haven't heard about this service and when they come in, they're like, ‘Wow, I haven't heard about this center.’ And when they come in, they see all the activities that we have going on.”

The next senior food drive will be held October 6th from 10 AM til 12PM. The West Madison Senior Center is located on 806 Huntersville-Denmark Road in Jackson Tennessee.
