FedEx is expanding in Humboldt
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ)-
Humbolt continues to grow economically as FedEx announces plans to build a new distribution plant in the industrial park.
“We are thrilled to announce that FedEx is not only remaining in Humboldt but they’re expanding their footprint greatly,” says Amanda Love of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.
The purchase of sixty acres will allow FedEx to expand from its current 40,000 sq. ft. distribution center in the Humboldt to a new site that will be over eight times larger at 330,000 sq. ft.
The company is also expected to add a substantial number of jobs in management, warehouse, and truck and van drivers.
The chamber hopes that this deal will cause other businesses to open facilities in Gibson county as well, "if we’re a hub for a fedex distribution then we’re a hub for you to be able to distribute your product wherever it is in the county. If fedex thinks that we’re a good jumping-off location then it's going to be great for your widgets, whatever you make.
When the new facility is complete the old FedEx building will be open for a new business to move in. Amanda love says that more industrial properties will be available for business in the future.
The new FedEx facility is expected to open in the fall of 2022.
