Earth Day litter clean ups and celebrations planned in Jackson

JACKSON, TENN (WNBJ)-

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd all across the nation, and the day isn't going uncelebrated in Jackson.

Keep Jackson Beautiful will be hosting Trashercise littler pick ups in North, South, East and Midtown Jackson. See the full list HERE.

Trashercise is a combination of walking exercise and trash pick up.

“They have actually sent us kits that we're going to give out to the volunteers that are helping us clean up to kind of encourage them to do it not just on earth day, but every day, making it kind of a routine," said Danielle Wade the Keep Jackson Beautiful Coordinator.

Keep Jackson Beautiful will also host a community bulk waste cleanup at the fairgrounds from 8 am to 12 am, Wade said, “If you have mattresses, tires and any bulk waste that's over fifty pounds, you can bring it through and we'll take it and also in addition to that, the first 50 people through the fairgrounds will get a free tarp courtesy of TDOT.”

But that’s not all of the Earth Day celebrations in the Hub City, “In addition to that, we will be set up at the Jackson farmers market and we will have a booth set up from local beekeepers. The master gardeners will be there giving out trees. We will have a booth and so will the new recycling center will be there from eight to noon," Wade said.

Wade hopes that the earth day events will inspire Jacksonians to make keeping the city clean a habit, “Just kind of let people say, hey, look around you and they may clean that up. r with this with the city's 311 app, you can actually geotag and tag where the trash is so that we know and we can help with that situation," she said.
