Dyer Fire Department set to host first annual Patriot Day this Saturday

DYER, TN (WNBJ) - The Dyer Fire Department is hosting their first annual Patriot Day this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Dyer.

Patriot Day was organized to honor the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

The event will include a 5k, arts and crafts, food, musical performances, and much more.

One of the firefighters at the department explains why is it important to commemorate 9/11 in this way.

“We can always get behind those who are willing to sacrifice themselves for our nation. In this case, there were nearly 3,000 Americans that lost their lives nearly 20 years ago. We fought a global war on terrorism since then and we’ve lost even more Americans for that, so this is a time for us to come together as a community, as a nation, as a people and celebrate what makes us uniquely American,” said Jayson Fernandez, one of the firefighters at the Dyer Fire Department.

Dyer Patriot Day will be in downtown dyer on Front Street from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the department’s holiday toy drive.
