Daughters of the American Revolution to celebrate flag day with event on Saturday

JACKSON, TN (WNBJ)-

Flag day is coming up on Monday but Jackson is kicking off the holiday early with a celebration tomorrow morning. Tomorrow (Saturday 6/12) at 10 am in triangle park off of airways in downtown Jackson, the Daughters of the American Revolution will be dedicating a field of flags. The field of flags in Jackson honors the patriots of the American revolution. This is the only field of flags dedicated to those that fought in and supported the war. Each flag has a name of a patriot under it, some of them are from Madison county.

“There are 17 madison county patriots, of course you know North Carolina was where were Tennessee is during the revolution, so the patriots either lived or died here,” says Gwen McCaffrey McReynolds the historian for the Jackson-Madison county Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jackson mayor Scott Conger and county Jimmy Harris will give proclamations at the event. The Vietnam Veterans of American chapter 995 honor guard will be presenting the colors and playing taps. The flag dedication is part of the celebration of flag day. Dan brooks a member of the Sons of the American revolution talks about what the US flag represents and why we celebrate flag day,

“It represents the freedom of this great country and all of the soldiers who fought in all of the ways to protect our great country.”

The dedication of the flags will take place at 10 in triangle park off of airways in downtown Jackson

If there is rain then the event will be relocated to the VFW on airways in Jackson.
