Construction underway at USJ
Jackson, TN. (WNBJ)-
Some students at the university school of Jackson feel their school really aced it today. Student athletes were thrilled to see the groundbreaking for a new golf and tennis facility. Raj Patel (USJ Tennis Team Captain) stated, "when I first heard we were getting the building I didn’t believe it because even though tennis has won the most state championships for our school the program is pretty small here.”
The new facility is part of a large expansion program at USJ called "The Imagine More Campaign” Russ Ellis (Development Director) told 39 News, “The Imagine More Campaign which was launched in 2018 is really the vision which came way before that. The board of trustees, faculty, staff, of what they wanted of USJ to embody. That means what we do on the classroom, on the field, on the stage.”
The goal of the expansion campaign is to improve life on campus... It includes 17 renovations like updated playgrounds, gated entries, and the new golf and tennis facility: Claire Henson (USJ Student Athlete) informed us, “my friends at Franklin Road, Baylor and McCallie Ainsworth already have this opportunity to practice on these types of facilities. I’m proud to say that USJ will be the first in West Tennessee.” Raj Patel (USJ Tennis Team Captain) emphasized, “tennis is not really as popular of sport as football, basketball, we all continue to play it because we love it and we love playing with our teammates."
More construction is in the works at USJ. Next in line? Russ Ellis (Development Director) stated, “the baseball stadium. It’s not new, it’s enhanced stadium construction right now. The tennis courts are in the final stages as you can see. We have an on-going arbor project. We’re continuing to plant trees on campus. As we move into the summer of 2022. We’ll move into some civil projects with roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.”
