City of Jackson set to host live Christmas tree recycling event
JACKSON, TN (WNBJ) - The city of Jackson and Keep Jackson Beautiful will be hosting 'Chipping of the Greens' event on Saturday, January 8th.
This Christmas tree recycling initiative is a way to recycle live Christmas trees and turn them into mulch.
The superintendent of groundskeeping with the City of Jackson talks about the benefits of the service.
“We just encourage people to bring them. It is a great way to recycle them and not just throw them in the landfill and take up space. It is a two-prong benefit to the citizens in the community and we just hope everyone gets involved one way or another,” said J.D. Sims, Superintendent of Groundskeeping and Coordinator of Keep Jackson Beautiful.
Starting today through January 7, residents can drop off their Christmas trees at one of three locations listed below:
LIVE CHRISTMAS TREE DROP-OFF LOCATIONS:
• North Park (Recycle Bin Parking Lot)
• Liberty Garden (West Parking Lot)
• The City Of Jackson, Tn Fire Training Center (South Parking Lot)
Trees will then be picked up and taken to the fire training center to be turned into mulch on Saturday, January 8th.
The recycled mulch will be free to the public and available for pick up.
Residents who would like their Christmas trees picked up can make a new request for “Christmas tree pick-up” via the ready 311 app or on the City of Jackson website by selecting “311 (report issue)” under the government tab.
