City of Humboldt prepares for 84th Annual Strawberry Festival

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. (WNBJ) - The city of Humboldt is about two months away from the annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival. Businesses and the chamber of commerce are now preparing for the weeklong celebration.

“This festival is kind of the official start of spring and getting ready summer. Humboldt is getting ready for it all year long," said Beth Culpepper, the Events Coordinator with the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.

This year Humboldt is celebrating its 84th Strawberry Festival and planning for the event is well underway.

“We have some new concession vendors this year. Food is always a big thing here. We have vendors that line the streets. We have some new ones. We have all your favorites coming back. Of course, the carnival is a big deal. We’ve got new entertainment this year. We are rolling out some surprises so stay tuned for all the info we will release about that,” said Culpepper.

The Kandy Bank is one business on Main Street that is preparing for the huge crowds expected downtown.

“Based upon last year’s Strawberry Festival it’s going to be a little different for us as we are a lot bigger than we were previously. We are going to be better prepared this time. We will be doing a lot of things from specialty ice cream and specialty milkshakes," said Scott Keena, co-owner of the Kandy Bank.

"Chocolate cover strawberries, we will have special ice cream treats, cheesecake treats, anything strawberry you can think of we probably will have it,” said Kelli Keena, co-owner of the Kandy Bank.

Nanny’s Natural Products is a newer business on Main Street and this will be its first Strawberry Festival in a storefront downtown.

“Well, one thing we are making sure we have is plenty of our strawberry soaps, lotions, and foaming hand soaps in the strawberry scent. We are very excited to be here in downtown Humboldt and look forward to the Strawberry Festival. It’s going to be a lot of new faces, thousands of faces coming by so we hope to make some sales," said Mike Eaton, the Director of Sales at Nanny’s Natural Products.

The 84th annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival will be from May 1st through May 7th.
