American Red Cross Prepares for "Sound the Alarm" Event
JACKSON, Tenn.- You might have seen the American Red Cross team in your community! Members and volunteers were out canvassing today for their “Sound The Alarm” event next Saturday! Red Cross Community Disaster Risk Reduction Manager Darrius Jackson looks forward to the event.
“Oh, my god, I'm super excited about today's event today as we're going out in the community to knock on a couple of doors to allow the community to understand that we'll be back next Saturday in East Jackson to put in some free smoke alarms to make our community more resilient and stronger against house fires.”
Darrius explains the motivation behind the Sound The Alarm initiative.
“So here in Jackson, we've had about 46 house fires over the last seven months, which let us know that there is a increase and so putting the smoke alarms is just to make people safer.”
Red Cross volunteers understand the importance of fire safety and giving back to the community.
“You really don't realize how many fires occur in the in the local area until you get involved in something like this. but there's truly a need out there," says Lou Holsonback.
“Definitely get smoke detectors because they save lives” explains James Martin.
The “Sound the Alarm” event will be held next Saturday, March 25th from 9am til noon. The opening rally will be at the Red Cross chapter office at Stonecreek Circle, right before the American Red Cross team goes out to install smoke alarms in East Jackson.
