Jackson, TN. (WNBJ)-

At approximately 8:50 last night police are reporting a 6-year-old boy was struck in a hit and run, right behind me on the intersection of prospect and forest avenue.

Police have confirmed the driver as Sherita Phelps of Jackson, TN. She is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving on suspended, and no proof of insurance. Earlean smith a resident in the community has seen one too many reckless drivers on that road. Earlean Smith (Madison County Resident) stated, “It would be very nice, if the people who run up and down forest would lower your speed limit. The speed limit is 35. I’ve seen people run down Forest pushing 60, 65 almost 70 miles per hour.”

The name of the 6-year-old struck in the collation has not been released, but police have confirmed he is in stable condition in a Memphis, TN. hospital. Smith wants drivers to know. Earlean Smith (Madison County Resident) emphasized, “Forest is not a highway. There are kids that live over here and you guys need to slow it down.”

This is still an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police at 731-425-8400.
