First Lady Lee serves the Jackson community
First Lady Maria Lee continues her initiative Tennessee Serves in Jackson today, as she makes a stop at the Dream Center.
Every month Lee has a different challenge.
But before she started February's challenge she had one last stop to make for January's challenge to help the homeless community.
“To gain knowledge of what they do here but also highlight what they're doing in this community for women and children who are homeless and need some help getting back on their feet,” says Lee.
Lee got to hear from the women that the Dream Center serves about what it's done for their life.
One of these women, Jeri Jo Fry spoke to Lee about her 25 year meth addiction, and how the Dream Center changed her life.
“It's just changed me so much. I got my joy back, I got freedom, i'm content with myself and God's just restoring everything i've lost,” says Fry.
Lee hopes her initiative Tennessee Serves, encourages others to give back to their communities.
“By us out serving well be an example to others. Highlighting the great work people are doing, non profits are doing hopefully we’ll make people aware of whats in their own backyard that they might be able to jump in and serve in non profits in their own communities,” says Lee.
Fist Lady Lee encourages other Tennesseans to join her in her monthly service challenges.
