Dyersburg State Community College adds a new field before the season starts

Spring is in the air and that means baseball is right around the corner one local baseball coach is opening up his season with something a little new.

A couple of baseball players at Dyersburg State Community College take their first steps on their new field.

“You know, I’m excited to see how the guys react to it", says head coach, Robert White.

The team has a new turf field just in time for the beginning of the season.

This new field not only looks nice but, it will help keep the players on the field longer.

Sophomore player, Chris Modesi, says, “Hopefully it prevents us from having delays with rain and stuff so it will keep us on the field more.”

The turf field will absorb water when it rains keeping players on the field and keeping mud and water out.

The field can absorb about 8 inches of water an hour.

Head coach Robert White says that this field has come after almost 20 years of work.

“Year by year we have just been adding to this field and this fall we were very fortunate to get the turf.”

And the players are ready to try it out…

“New beginnings, this field looks beautiful right now, I’m just excited to get on the field and play right now", says Modesi.

The team has a history of making appearances at the World Series, winning regional and conference championships and the coach says that although the field is new the expectations are still the same.

“What they do on and off the field as well and how they do in the classroom that’s the biggest thing getting high character guys are here for the right reasons", says White.

The Eagles first game is January 31st, in Dyersburg for 39 News, I’m Imani Williams.
