Bradford United Methodist Church Sells to Bradford Special School District

The Bradford United Methodist Church has been downtown for over one hundred years. But as of late it has fallen on hard times. The building was put up for sale after dwindling congregation numbers.

“When we realized that our church wouldn’t be able to function as a church should, we started trying to make arrangements to save our building,” said Tommy Veasey, chairman of Bradford United Methodist Church.

The church decided to reach out to the Bradford Special School District to work out a deal to sell them both the church and the recreational room in the back.

“It was a great situation for us, they have an activity building that we are going to put our offices in. Plus, the church building is a fabulous structure,” said Dan Black, superintendent of BSSD.

Superintendent Black says that the school district has already started making plans on what to use the church building for.

“We’ll be able to host our baccalaureate service in there, Teacher in-services we could have in there, we could have a board meeting there if we had something major going on. I think it has a lot of options.”

Members of the church are just happy the building will be put to good use.

“There was a lot of people who work really hard to make that happen and see this building stay here for a long, long time here in the community.”

The school district plans to move in by the end of the year.
