City and County Spread Good News

xecutives for the City of Jackson and Madison County have taken their own message on the road.  The message their spreading is all positive.

When the message is good   it is worth repeating not once, not twice,  but now for the third time.

 Jackson city Mayor Jerry Gist   and County Mayor Jerry Harris took to the podium one more time in front of the Exchange Club of Jackson.

The community leaders overwhelmed the group with a multitude of good news statistics.

The overall crime rate is down 11 percent.  In 2012, there were more than 200 robberies. In 2017 that number fell to less than 80.

Homicides went from 13 in 2012 to 7 in 2016-2017.

And of course, nobody can ignore the economic growth.

Local industry added nearly 1000 jobs

Unemployment sits at 3.5 percent.

From a manufacture perspective the auto industry has been kind to Madison County

County Mayor Harris says the has seven auto plants and people are buying cars.

Many companies are expanding including Stanley Black and Decker and Metal Technologies.

County Mayor Harris says education is the next big item to improve on and he thinks they have the right man for the job.

 

   Mayors Gist and Harris both made reference during Tuesay’s  presentation to bigger things coming.

   but neither would elaborate.
