Where to Begin - Site Selection & Garden Planning
It’s never too early to make a plan! A successful vegetable gardener starts earlier than you might think. We will be discussing how to select the proper planting site, garden planning, ordering seed, and many other tasks that must be considered well in advance of planting your spring garden.

Understanding Soil & Plant Nutrition
A bountiful harvest begins with a healthy soil. We will discuss how soil effects plant nutrition, techniques for improving soil structure/quality, preparing ground for planting, and preparing for plant nutrition.
250K Tree Day
Madison County will be participating in the 100K Tree Day again this year. It was such a success that TN has raised it’s’ goal to 250K Tree Day!
If you would like to help us reach this goal, go to https://tectn.org/ to register for your FREE TREES!!! They will come in a bundle of 5 that will include 1 each of Loblolly Pine, Northern Red Oak, Yellow Poplar, Red Bud, and Persimmon. The Extension office is the only distribution site for Madison County. You may pick up your trees on Thurs., Feb. 23rd from 9am-5pm and Sat., Feb. 24th 9am-11am.

Check Your Credit Campaign
By law, you can check your credit at the three credit reporting agencies for free once a year. But it’s something people forget. Checking your credit report is one way to know if your credit has been hijacked.
This campaign consists of three emails—one each in February, May and October starting in 2018—with a reminder to check your credit report. The program is free for anyone. Only your first name and email address are needed to participate. Sign up today at https://tiny.utk.edu/checkcredit

Looking for the healthiest food— especially on a budget? Come to a FREE grocery store tour where you’ll learn to read food labels, compare unit prices, select fruits, vegetables and meats, and identify whole grain products and dairy products.

Considering purchasing a home? This online course with one-hour follow-up provides first-time homebuyers with information to get in and keep their homes. It meets the THDA loan requirement. Get the class sooner – not later.

2018 4-H Camp Sign Up Day
If your child or grandchild is interested in attending 2018 4-H camps, sign them Sat., Feb. 3 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to be sure there is space. You can also purchase gift certificates for birthday (or even for Christmas).
