Be Careful for Scam Using Fire Department's Name

The Madison County Fire Department is working to end a phone scam attempting to steal its identity.

According to a release from the fire department Tuesday...many Jackson residents are receiving calls asking for donations to the Madison County Fire Department.

Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner tells NBC39 these callers have even managed to make a former fire chief's name show up on caller ID. He says, “they can use an organization they feel like they can get people will fall into and try to donate

Turner says most organizations, including the fire department, would never try to raise funds this way...so if you do receive a call asking for money...hang up immediately and report the call to the sheriff's office.
